Message from the Headteacher - September 16th

This week at the Prep School we have been looking at the importance of fresh starts and everything that goes hand in hand with a new school year.

Children from Years 3 and 4 confidently led Wednesday’s assembly on the theme of New Beginnings and spoke about their hopes for the year ahead at our school. Every child read out what they would personally like to achieve this year. The children had carefully discussed this in their classes and their personal targets showed great thought. The rest of the pupils then reflected on their own hopes for the school year ahead. Many of the children spoke about how they wanted to better their abilities within their school lessons, whilst others were excited about new opportunities available to them through our extensive programme of extra curricular activities.

The extra curricular activities offered at the Prep School form an important part of school life and are extremely popular with the children. We firmly believe that these activities provide the children with opportunities to tackle new challenges and to master new skills alongside others. As well as being fun, these activities help develop a child’s self confidence and it has been lovely this week to see so many of our children trying new activities such as climbing, recorders and cup-stacking.

School assemblies this week have also given us the opportunity to celebrate the successes of our pupils. Congratulations go to Sophie Cutting from Year 5 who was presented with her Grade 1 Singing Award from the Royal Society of Music. Sophie had practised hard on her set pieces and this was reflected in her final mark. Last term some of our youngest girls took part in their very first ballet exams. Their ballet teacher, Miss Jane, had coached the girls to a very high standard for their Preparatory Grade and we are all thrilled by their successes; Heidi Clements received Highly Commended, whilst top Honours grades were awarded to Sophir Ashir, Ellie Cocks, Ella Foreman, Isabelle Kemp and Imogen Wheatley.

With the children keenly focused on the school year ahead, I am quite certain that these successes are just a flavour of things to come.

Best regards - Maria Maslin
