Dear Parents
The sun shone brightly last Saturday morning as we opened our doors for the first Open Day of the year. We welcomed prospective and current families into the School to see the children at work and at play. The children are very proud of everything the School has to offer and were excited to have so many people tour the School and see the wonderful facilities. Parents and governors commented on the lovely atmosphere of the School and complimented the children on their behaviour and good manners. Current parents enjoyed seeing parts of the School that are not immediately accessible to them on a daily basis and were drawn to the extensive facilities in the ICT suite where Mr Croft explained the wonders of the children using J2E. Thanks go to James Dennett for organising the event and to the parent volunteers who gave guided tours and spoke to families having refreshments; the obvious enthusiasm that you have for the School was evident and this clearly impressed our prospective parents.
The children are now settled into their House groups and have already had several meetings with their Housemaster/mistress. The House system gives the children the opportunity to be part of a family group made up of children across the classes. Each child strives for their House to be the best and merits given out as part of our reward system are carefully counted and accumulated to see which House has the most. News from St Mary’s is that they now have a new House mascot which is proving a hit with their members. St Patrick’s led one of our assemblies this week on the theme of aiming high and trying to be a "superhero". This caught the imagination of many and now everyone is trying to be "super" kind, work "super" hard and develop other "super" qualities.
Thank you to everyone who has filled a bag with items for the British Heart Foundation. So far we have donated over forty bags of items for this charity, which is a wonderful achievement. If you have not yet had an opportunity to donate and would like to, please find empty bags available in the entrance foyer.
Thank you to all those who came to today’s MacMillan coffee morning – it was lovely to see so many people there. Thank you to those who baked delicious cakes for us to sell. Children from Reception, year 1 and 2 charmed everyone with their entertainment. We learnt all about Brain Gym and then the children sang three beautiful autumn songs; Big Red Combine Harvester, Autumn Leaves and The Owl. All money from today’s event will go to support the MacMillan Cancer Support.
This week has seen the children enjoying the late summer weather. Sunny days have been had with children coming in from break times on the field with pockets full of acorns and conkers. We are hoping that the weather lasts enough for us to enjoy a little longer!
Best regards
- Headteacher Maria Maslin
