Message from the Headteacher - 14th October

Dear Parents

Characters from the pages of Roald Dahl books engulfed the Prep School today as we took part in our very first Dahlicious Dress Up Day. Children (and staff) dressed up as Charlie, Boggis, Matilda, Miss Trunchbull, Willy Wonka, The Twits, Fantastic Mr Fox, the Enormous Crocodile, the Big Friendly Giant, Oompa-Loompas and all kinds of phizz-whizzing characters to raise money for seriously ill and disabled children. We held a special assembly where the children paraded around the hall and we could all see the amazing effort that had gone into their costumes. Special golden tickets were handed to the children as they entered school and the winning ticket won a chocolate bar (did you know that Roald Dahl was a chocolate taster for Cadbury’s when he was a boy!) It was a good example of how the children at the Prep School can raise money for charity whilst having lots of fun. We thank you for your generous donations.

It was the turn of Year’s One and Two to lead our assembly and delight our visiting inspectors this week. The children told us all about their historical discoveries during their recent visit to Bodiam Castle. They showed the work they have been doing since returning from their adventure including impressive castle models with working drawbridges. They ended with a charming rendition of a song called "In the Hairy Scary Castle" complete with actions. The assembly gave all the children time to reflect on how they can enjoy their learning both within school and also from visiting special places like Bodiam Castle.

Every child in years 3-6 enjoyed trying out new sports yesterday as Sports Leaders from the Senior School came to run special workshops at the Prep School. During the session our pupils were introduced to the exciting sports of Extreme Frisbee and Handball and they all entered into the activities with great enthusiasm. A big thank you goes to Rob Mercer and the Sports Leaders for an energetic and enjoyable afternoon.

As the Prep School breaks for the traditional two week half-term holiday, I would like to commend the children on the way they have embraced this new school year and congratulate them on how hard they have worked at their academic, sporting and creative studies. We wish all the children and their families a restful holiday and look forward to welcoming you all back to school on Monday 31st October.

Best regards

Maria Maslin
