Message from the Headteacher - November 18th 2011

Dear Parents

The whole Prep School went spotty today to support the BBC Children in Need Appeal 2011. This year’s slogan for the charity to "show your spots, let’s raise lots" was certainly taken to heart at the School. The children came to school dressed in their own spotty clothes in return for donations for this year’s appeal. As I greeted families at the front door this morning, some outfits were so amazingly spotty that it took a while to recognise a few children. In assembly on Monday we watched a DVD to show how the money we raise goes to help others and then a challenge was set – could we fill a special spotty Pudsey bag with coins? Needless to say the children at the Prep School enjoy being challenged and this task was no exception. All week coins have been placed in a special pot and in assembly this morning we found that there were so many coins in the bag that we could hardly lift it! Well done to everyone for your donations and a special mention to Year 1 and 2 who sorted and counted the money respectively. Reception class baked special teddy bear biscuits today which they shared with Key Stage 1 children and the whole school enjoyed a themed lunch including spotty chocolate brownies. Particular thanks go to Tracie Ratcliffe for providing the whole school with delicious sweet kebabs and other homemade delights to make the event extra special.

Everyone at School has certainly been championing our "Green" qualities this week and moving forward in giant strides in our quest to be more environmentally aware. The representatives at the School Council meeting held on Monday came armed with beautifully designed posters encouraging everyone to turn off lights in empty rooms! The School Council reps looked at the slogans and the eye-catching nature of each one and the chosen designs have now been placed near strategic light switches around the school. New paper recycling bins have been installed in every class and the children have been making sure that both they and the teachers recycle as much paper as possible.

Year 5 really enjoyed their visit this week to the "Warhol is Here" exhibition at the De La Warr Pavilion with their art teacher Mrs Ho. The children had the opportunity to look closely at the artist’s iconic work. The children particularly liked the use of bold colours, the imposing image of Chairman Mao and the Campbell’s soup can pictures. This visit compliments the screen printing work they have been focusing on in their art lessons.

With the weekend almost here, I am looking forward to seeing many of you at the FOBAS quiz evening later.

Best regards Maria Maslin
