Dear Parents
It was lovely to see family and friends at so many of our Christmas events this week.
Carols at the Gate held on Monday was a fitting start to our final week of term with the children across the whole School taking part. Every class from Key Stage 2 took part in festive Choral Speaking; Christmas poems and literary pieces entertained the audience. The Choir gave wonderful renditions of both traditional and more modern Christmas Carols with superb solos from Sophie Cutting and Bertie Young. The programme was interspersed with individual Christmas pieces by both vocal soloists and instrumentalists. The talented musicians performed with great confidence. Key Stage 1 children delighted the audience by singing Away in a Manger and a song from their Christmas show. The whole school community, including the congregation, came together on this special occasion to sing Carols and enjoy the Christmas spirit.
The Key Stage 1 production of Born in a Barn enchanted the audiences. The story was based on the story of the Nativity seen through the eyes of the animals in the barn. There were some amazing individual performances including solos by Evie McCabe and Olivia Mullarkey. All the children performed with great enthusiasm and were well rehearsed. It was lovely for our Nursery children to join in the performances as Stars. They sang and signed Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and enjoyed their moments on the stage. We definitely have some amazing talent at the Prep School.
The Key Stage 2 pantomime of Robin Hood was a triumph! Every child had worked hard and put in a lot of effort to ensure that their friends and families were not disappointed. The play script was cleverly cast and the Year 6 children acting in the key roles performed to their very best. The singing was strong and the jokes were suitably funny. Members of the audience commented after the performances at how much the children enjoyed Robin Hood and his Merry Men saved the day and Sir Guy and the Sheriff of Nottingham were traditionally thwarted in their attempts at capturing Robin Hood. The show, written by our very own Steve Croft with the musical score written by our music teacher Faye Neave, was a great achievement!
Congratulations to Madison Mullarkey whose creative, Christmas design was chosen for our Prep School Christmas card this year.
Thank you to everyone for helping to make our Christmas Fayres such a success – we have raised a huge amount for the School and will let you know the final total once counting is finished!
At the end of our final week I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas from everyone at the Prep School and we look forward to seeing you all back rested and refreshed for the Spring Term on Monday 9th January 2012.
Best regards Maria Maslin
