Message from the Headteacher - December 2nd 2011

Dear Parents

Christmas arrived at the Prep School this week with festive decorations and special displays going up around the school. In particular the display in the entrance foyer of "Letters to Father Christmas" written carefully by our Key Stage 1 pupils has enjoyed a wide audience. Father Christmas will be kept extremely busy reading these letters and I’m sure he is deep in thought considering their requests; I-pads and phones were listed as presents the children would like to receive alongside more traditional gifts of roller-skates and new bikes. I particularly liked the letter from Evie who asked for ‘something to make someone happy’, a lovely thought and a keen reminder to us all about the sentiments that lie behind the presents we will give and receive over the coming weeks.

On Monday the Prep School Choir rehearsed their Carols for one final time before embarking on their Choir Tour. The residents of Ardath and Yvonne Robertson House were delighted to see the children and greatly enjoyed the feast of Christmas Carols sung to them. This annual event spreads much
happiness within our local community and particular thanks go to music teacher Miss Neave who rehearsed the children so well and for Mrs Corrigan and Miss Chidley for accompanying the Choir.

The dress rehearsal of the Key Stage 2 pantomime "Robin Hood" went very smoothly yesterday and the Year 7 children from the Abbey were a supportive audience for the last minute tweaks and adjustments. Key Stage 1 children have been busy practising their play "Born in a Barn". The school has been filled with children in a variety of wonderful costumes and next week’s productions to family and friends will be colourful and well rehearsed.

Everyone in school enjoyed our traditional Christmas lunch today with the children wearing decorative Christmas hats. Thanks go to all the kitchen staff for cooking such delicious food and for making it such a special occasion.

The school is most definitely ready for what proves to be a very exciting last week of term.

Best regards

Maria Maslin
