Dear Parents
The children in the Prep School are now all wearing their commemorative badges to mark the 100th Birthday of Battle Abbey School. These were presented to each class during assembly this week. The children eagerly pinned their badges to their school uniform and are wearing them with pride.
The assembly led by Year 4 pupils this Wednesday reminded us of the powerful nature of words. The children showed the rest of the school a very thick dictionary and then explained what it is full of and what it is used for. The children shared all the ways we use words: to express opinions and feelings, to give instructions, to describe an event, to exchange news and to tell jokes. They then shared some tongue twisters and jokes where we all enjoyed the experience of playing with words. Year 4 then discussed how the words we use can affect the way others feel about themselves. We decided to use words in school for encouraging, comforting, and supporting each other.
The week finished with the whole of key stage 2 visiting the Assembly Halls in Tunbridge Wells for an amazing performance of The Terrible Tudors. Based on the Horrible Histories series, the children learnt about the Tudor period of History in a fun and lively manner. Using actors and ground-breaking 3D special effects, this astounding show thrilled the children; historical figures and events came alive on stage from the horrible Henries to the end of evil Elizabeth. The children heard the legends (and the lies!) about the Tudors.
The final week before half-term holds much in store for our younger pupils; with the Year 2 trip to the Science Centre at Herstmonceux next Monday and the Key Stage 1 Recorder Club Performance to Parents on Wednesday at 4pm in the School Hall.
Best wishes
Maria Maslin
