Dear Parents
We arrived at school on Monday morning to a Winter Wonderland. The blanket of fresh snow on the school field gave the children a blank canvas for them to learn and play. Groups of children worked together constructing huge mounds of snow, many of which were taller than the children and indeed the staff! They were crafted in a creative fashion into snowmen, snow mice, ice chairs and a rather splendid snow slide! Each break time this week has been eagerly anticipated and the children have really enjoyed their time in the snow as the photographs in this week’s
newsletter show. The cold and snowy conditions were also used this week to support scientific learning on temperature and rates of melting, as a stimulus for some exciting poetry work and
Reception children have used the snow as a theme for their learning.
Children from St Etheldreda’s treated the school to a colourful assembly on Wednesday based on the events that have happened both in Britain and in the world during the last century. This was to tie in with the 100 years since Battle Abbey School opened. St E’s danced their way through the decades to music of each era. They added interesting facts to give the rest of the school an idea of important events that have happened over the last 100 years.
Key Stage 1 Recorder Club gave a short concert to their families on Wednesday. The children only started playing their instruments in September and they were very excited to perform to an
audience. They showed their progression from one note to short musical pieces. Accompanying the children was Mrs Hazell who runs the club. At the end, every child was presented with a
certificate as recognition of their achievement.
Everyone at the Prep School wishes you all a lovely break next week and we look forward to welcoming the children back to school for another busy and exciting half-term on Monday 20th February.
Best wishes
Maria Maslin
Prep School Headteacher
