Message from the Headteacher - March 16th 2012

Dear Parents

We were dazzled in Assembly on Monday by members of the Cup Stacking Club.  Cup Stacking (also known as speed stacking) is an individual and team sport that involves stacking specialised plastic cups in specific sequences in as little time as possible.  The children showed deftness of skill both as individuals and in pairs and the rest of the school were mesmerised by their abilities.  The children attend a club once a week, run by Mrs. Williamson, where they practice together.  Cup Stacking is good for promoting hand-eye co-ordination, ambidexterity, quickness and concentration and is certainly popular in our school!

The new School Councillors met as a group for the first time on Monday.  They will be very involved over the next few months with the School Centenary.  We discussed having a special Birthday party in the summer and talked about the possibility of having a time-capsule in the school grounds to mark this special year.

To mark National Science Week, every child from Key Stage 2 visited the Science Centre at Herstmonceux for a fun-filled and informative day on the theme of “Our World in Motion”.  The children gained much from their learning beyond the classroom and the Centre staff certainly brought Science to life.

It seems hard to believe that next week is the final week of term before the Easter Holiday as we still have so much to look forward to:  good luck goes to our Swimming Team for Monday as they compete in the National Swimming Championships at Crawley, the Choir will be performing at the Spring Centenary Concert on Tuesday and we have our very own “Run a Mile” for Sports Relief for children and parents on the school field next Friday for Sports Relief.

The Prep School Open Day, this Saturday 17th March, runs from 10am – 12 noon.  We are looking forward to welcoming prospective families as well as our current parents to this event.

Best wishes.

Maria Maslin
Prep School Headteacher
