Message from the Headteacher June 29th 2012

Dear Parents

Key Stage 2 pupils took to the stage at the Prep School on Tuesday evening for a marvellous “Musical Summer Soirée”.  The Choir was in fine voice, coming hot on the heels of Saturday’s performance at the Centenary Concert at the De La Warr Pavilion.    Every class from Key Stage 2 delighted the audience with their compositional pieces; which ranged from Year 4’s rendition of Coldplay’s “Paradise” on keyboard and glockenspiel to Year 5’s rhythmic “Body Beats”. The individual performances were equally strong and included a fine mix of vocals and instrumentals.  Year 6 read out their Memories of their time at the Prep School and spoke of moving on to “another adventure” next term.  Miss Faye Neave, the Prep School’s Director of Music, was congratulated by those present for producing a wonderfully entertaining evening celebrating the Musical talents of every child.

Wednesday morning saw Year 3 leave the Prep School very early to visit Dover Castle for the day.  This great Medieval Castle, built by King Henry II, situated on the cliff tops made the perfect venue for our children to learn about the past from first hand experience. The Castle has been restored to resemble what it was like during the 1940’s and the children excitedly explored the wartime tunnels and kitchens as part of their History work looking at World War II.

Yesterday saw warm weather and sunny skies – just right for our Key Stage 1 Sports Day.  Every child in Reception and Key Stage 1 ran races, relays and took part in a carousel of sporting activities led by our year 6 pupils.  The children were awarded stickers and were cheered on by family and friends who had turned out to support them.  After Sports Day, our families laid out colourful picnic blankets and hampers and the traditional post Sports Day picnic took place.

We are looking forward to an exciting final week of term next week!

With best wishes.

Maria Maslin
