Dear Parents
Monday saw the Prep School open its doors bright and early for the start of another exciting academic year. It was lovely to welcome everyone back after the Summer break and I know that our new families are already feeling part of the Battle Abbey School family. The new Reception pupils completed one of the most important milestones in their lives – their first day at school! They arrived at their classroom enthusiastic and possibly a little apprehensive; dressed smartly in their uniform ready for the exciting day ahead. After a fantastic day of exploration and fun they were collected by their families; happy and possibly a little weary!
Children throughout the School have settled quickly into their new routines and timetables. Many children I have spoken to this week feel very grown up being part of their new year groups and have certainly risen to the challenges of being in the next class.
We were treated to a special music workshop on Wednesday when Ollie Boorman, our peripatetic drum teacher, performed during Wednesday’s assembly. We learnt about the different drums and discovered more about the sounds and rhythms that could be produced from the drum kit. Amelie, Dominic and Arthur, who have been learning to play the drums with Ollie also took to the floor and impressed us with their playing. Drum lessons are just one of the individual instrumental lessons available at the Prep School.
Following on with the musical theme, I am thrilled to announce that every child who was entered for their piano and keyboard exams last term all passed with Distinction, the highest level that can be awarded. The children performed to a very high standard and richly deserved the high marks awarded to them. Well done to Miss Neave, their music teacher for preparing the children so well.
Staff have been busy organising exciting events and activities for later in the term which will enrich the children’s curriculum and I know that the children will gain greatly from these experiences.
We look forward to an exciting term of learning at the Prep School.
With best wishes.
Maria Maslin
