Message from the Headteacher November 23rd 2012

Dear Parents

Monday’s Assembly led by Year 4 was all about co-operation and helping others.  Imogen and Lillie, dressed in wonderful costumes, acted out the parable of the two donkeys.  For those of you unfamiliar with this story it demonstrates that the two donkeys have to work co-operatively together in order to reach their respective food buckets. Next the rest of Year 4 acted out the story of the two greedy brothers who learnt how to work together by eating food from very long-handled spoons; only by co-operating, taking turns and carefully feeding each other did the brothers get any food at all.  The whole School learnt that when we co-operate and work together we can often achieve much greater things more easily.

On Wednesday Miss Malewicz and three Sixth Form pupils arrived at the Prep School and gave a fascinating presentation to our children about the Senior School trip to Kenya which took place during the summer holidays.  The children heard about their Kenyan adventures and were amazed to find out that the Sixth Form students helped to build a classroom for a school that appeared to be in the middle of nowhere.  The older students even erected a fence to keep out the prowling wildlife!  The Prep School raised over £1,000 towards this classroom project and the children were thrilled to see that their fund raising efforts had improved the lives of so many children in Kenya.

On Wednesday afternoon Fin Acuna, Louis Choron, James Turner and Austin Alexander all “played up” and went up to the Senior School to take part in an Under 13 football match against Frewen College – we won the match and Austin even scored one of the goals!  We were very proud of our boys for this achievement and they really enjoyed playing in the match.

The creative arts have been very much in evidence in school this week with two of the children’s projects being used in Community Arts Events this weekend.  Young artists from Key Stage 2 designed and painted a wonderful flag as part of their art project this term with teacher Josephine Ho.  This flag will be flown tomorrow morning at The Stade in Hastings as part of the Herring Festival.  Children from Reception and Key Stage 1 have made beautiful decorations for a Christmas tree as part of St Mary’s Church Christmas Tree Festival in Battle.  The children have been learning about how Christmas is celebrated all over the world and so their decorations reflected the different customs and traditions in different countries.  These included paper flowers and lanterns from China, painted shells from Australia and even strings of popcorn and cranberries from the USA.

Rehearsals for the end of term performances of “Children around the World” (Reception and Key Stage 1) and “Peter Pan” (Key Stage 2) are progressing well.  The children have been busy learning their lines and the stage is set!

There is a sense of eager anticipation in the air, as we enter our final two weeks of the Autumn term.

Best regards
Maria Maslin
