Dear Parents
Christmas arrived at the Prep School this week with celebratory decorations and special displays going up around the School. The Christmas tree has taken prime position in the entrance hall and the school is looking very festive.
The winners of the Prep School Christmas card competition are Darcy Prime for Key Stage 1 and Imogen Birkett for Key Stage 2. Their beautiful Christmas designs will be used as the official Prep School Christmas cards this year.
On Monday the Prep School Choir rehearsed their Carols for one last time before embarking on their Choir Tour. The senior citizens of Ancaster Court, Yvonne Robertson House and Ardath were thrilled to see the children and greatly enjoyed the feast of Christmas Carols sung to them. This annual event spreads great cheer within our local community and particular thanks go to music teacher Miss Neave who rehearsed the children so well and for Mrs Corrigan and Miss Packer for escorting the Choir.
The Key Stage 2 Dance Club gave their end of term performance on Monday. The children performed three dances each of different styles and music. The children choreographed the final dance. An enormous thank you to Mrs Hazell for organising and inspiring our dancers; her obvious passion for dance was evident in the children’s performance.
St Martin’s led Assembly on Monday. They did an informative Assembly on the history of the Paralympic Games. It helped the whole School to appreciate the courage and determination shown by the Paralympic competitors to achieve things once thought impossible and to have the same courage when we find things tough.
Year 3 led a fascinating Assembly on Wednesday on their Forest School adventures this term. They explained that during their forest activities they have learned to work together more closely and to co-operate with each other. Some of their favourite activities included building dens in the pouring rain, making story sticks, building bridges, camouflaging their faces and climbing over logs. Great fun!
The dress rehearsal of the Key Stage 2 pantomime "Peter Pan" went very smoothly yesterday and the Year 7 students from the Abbey were a reassuringly supportive audience. Key Stage 1 children have been busy practising their nativity "Children around the World". The School has been filled with children in a rich assortment of wonderful costumes and next week’s productions to family and friends will be vibrant and well-rehearsed.
The school is most definitely ready for what proves to be a very exciting and festive last week of term.
Best Wishes
Maria Maslin
