Message from the Headteacher January 11th 2013

Dear Parents

It was lovely to welcome everyone back to the Prep School on Monday and the children were eager to share their holiday news. The Spring term has begun very positively and brightly at the Prep School with the children showing plenty of enthusiasm for learning following the restful Christmas break.

Successes for 2013 have tumbled in early for our pupils this year. Imogen and Harriet Wheatley took part in the South East Regional Schools Trampoline Championships in December. Both sisters competed in the Under 11 Girls Novice Event where 54 entrants were contending.  Harriet achieved a highly-placed 5th position and seven year old Imogen secured a well-deserved 35th place.  Music successes have been celebrated too with Amelia Midgley, Emily Paice, Imogen Scott-Carter and Hermione White all receiving the top grade of Distinction in their individual exams. The pupils sat either a piano or keyboard exam and these results demonstrate the exceedingly high standard of instrument playing by our pupils.  Olivia Mullarkey also achieved a Pass with Merit in her Grade 1 Singing exam.  Our thanks go to Miss Neave and Mrs George for their teaching of the pupils to this high standard.

The first Assembly of the year was used to consider the importance of showing gratitude.  After receiving such lovely Christmas gifts and spending many special times over the holiday the children felt it was important that they remembered to show appreciation and say a big “thank you” to friends and family.  We will now begin turning our attention to the opportunities that come with a new year and the children have already been setting themselves challenging targets at school.  Requests for instrumental tuition this term have been higher than ever before with many more children setting themselves the goal of learning a new instrument.

The children at the Prep School collect “Pluses” for good work and conduct both in the classroom and around the school. These are added up over the term to make a total for each House. There was great anticipation at the end of the Autumn term’s Mark Reading, with the termly House Cup being shared between the Houses of St. Mary’s, St Etheldreda’s and St Martins, with St Patrick’s House following closely behind!  Well done to every child; a great term’s work.

The first week has flown by, the children have all settled quickly back into the routine of school and we are all looking forward to the exciting activities and learning opportunities planned for the term ahead.

With best wishes for a prosperous 2013.

Maria Maslin
