Message from the Headteacher April 19th 2013

Dear Parents

It was lovely to welcome the children back to School this week after the Easter break.

Spring is finally here and the children have enjoyed making the most of the sunny weather in our grounds. The tennis courts have been buzzing with children practising their tennis skills and playing matches both in lessons and during their breaks.  The cricket nets are up and cricket coaching has begun in earnest ready for our schedule of Summer fixtures.

Yesterday, Mrs Ho, our Art teacher, took the children from Year 3 to the Hastings Arts Forum Gallery in St Leonards.  They went to see an exhibition by Moram, a local artist who paints in oils using strong colours.  They had the opportunity to talk to him and ask questions about his work.  They all returned to School ready to become budding impressionist painters!

As part of their topic work on Plants and Animals, Year 2 have started to “come alive” quite literally this term with the eggs of Pekin bantams being carefully incubated in their classroom.  The children are now waiting expectantly for the eggs to hatch - we will keep you posted on Mrs Golding’s Year 2 Blog.

The children at the Prep School excelled themselves last term and it was lovely to share the achievements and efforts of all the children at the Spring Term’s Mark Reading held on the final day of the Spring Term. The great number of “Pluses” awarded to individuals for good work and conduct both in the classroom and around the School were totalled for each House; with the House cup being awarded to St. Martin’s House, who had the most Pluses overall.

The Spring Term House placings were as follows:-

1st - St. Martin’s
2nd - St. Etheldreda’s
3rd - St. Patrick’s
4th - St Mary’s.

The Summer term at the Prep School promises to be sensational with many events, activities and sporting fixtures planned over the next few weeks. The children seize every opportunity to participate in our extra-curricular programme and have been thrilled with the wide range of after school activities on offer this term.  Indeed it is sometimes difficult to send them all home at the end of the day!

Let’s hope the sun shines for the best part of the term.

With best wishes.

Maria Maslin
