Dear Parents
Today was Yellow Day at the Prep School. Every child and member of staff came to school dressed in yellow clothing to mark this special fundraising day. It certainly made our School look very cheerful and sunny. Dr. Paul Wright, one of the volunteers, came from St Michael’s Hospice to speak at an Assembly on Monday and explained to us the wonderful service they provide. The money received will go to support the palliative care services at St Michael’s Hospice and ensure that every patient receives the very best care and attention when they need it most. The children are now busily filling the special collection tin with their money.
On Wednesday the Prep School hosted the Bexhill Area Waterpolo Tournament. Each game was fast-paced with plenty of chances on goal for every team. There was some superb defending and attacking play; with plenty of action for the crowd of spectators to enjoy. Battle Abbey Prep School emerged triumphant winners of every match and secured a well-deserved first place overall. Well done to everyone in our Waterpolo team, to Miss Govan for organising the tournament and for Mrs Payne for undertaking the scoring.
The children from Year 4 enjoyed an educational day at Fishbourne Roman Palace in West Sussex on Thursday led by Mr Croft. They have been studying life in Roman Britain as part of their History studies and this day really brought their learning in the classroom to life. They had a great day exploring the Roman site and enjoying a hands-on workshop. The children returned from their day inspired by what they had seen and full of new facts about Roman Britain. Mr Croft commented that the children were a credit to the School and that their inquiring minds and thirst for historical knowledge really impressed the staff at the centre.
There has been great excitement in the Prep School dining hall this week as the camera in our bird box revealed that a nest was being built! At various times throughout the week, we have seen a blue tit building a nest before our very eyes. The monitor for the camera is on the wall in the dining hall and lunchtimes have been rather hushed at times as when the blue tit enters the bird box all eyes have been transfixed upon it. We will be continuing to keep watch from our hidden camera during the coming weeks.
We are looking forward to welcoming lots of you to the FOBAS Barn Dance at the Abbey tomorrow, where we will enjoy a fun-filled evening.
With best wishes.
Maria Maslin
