Dear Parents
The theme of New Life has been very evident at the Prep School this week.
We arrived back to School on Tuesday, after the Bank Holiday weekend, to discover that six eggs had been laid in the blue tits’ nest. By the end of the School day on Tuesday nine eggs could be clearly seen. There is a camera inside the nesting box, feeding to a large wall mounted TV in the Dining Hall and lunchtimes have become even quieter as the children avidly watch the birds turning the eggs and sitting on them to keep them warm. The children and staff are finding it very exciting!
There have been more signs of new life in the Year 2 classroom with the hatching of some Pekin Bantams. This has been the cause of great excitement throughout the School with children from all classes eager to see the chicks hatch. Indeed many parents too have also had the opportunity to look at the chicks at the end of the School day encouraged by their children.
The Prep School has enjoyed great sporting success over the last week.
Last Friday, Battle Abbey Prep hosted Moira House for a Swimming Gala. Our girls, from Years 4, 5 and 6, rose to the occasion and greatly enjoyed the competition. Despite some close fought races, Battle Abbey emerged the stronger of the teams and were victorious. In fact Battle Abbey swimmers won every race for all ages – a huge achievement!
The wet, grey skies of Wednesday morning soon gave way to warm sunshine as our cricketers travelled to their first away fixture of the Summer Term. After a great afternoon of competitive cricket, our mixed cricket team were the winners. Well done to them all.
We wish our Year 6 pupils good luck as they sit their end of Key Stage 2 tests next week. They have been working very hard and are well prepared for the exam papers they will sit.
With best wishes.
Maria Maslin
