Message from the Headteacher May 17th 2013

Dear Parents

Year 6 were a credit to themselves and the School as they remained calm throughout this week’s rigorous SATs testing.  They applied themselves well to every task set and should be proud of their hard work both in preparation for the tests and during the exams.

All classes from Key Stage 1 have been taking their learning outside the classroom on trips and visits this week.  Reception class had a fascinating time at the Science Centre at Herstmonceux on Tuesday.  They came back full of enthusiasm for space and planets!  Years 1 and 2 had a great day at Groombridge on Wednesday where they enjoyed their river boat trip and searching for the zedonk!

Members of the School Council met this week and welcomed Sarah Cookson, one of the School Governors, to their meeting.  Every year the Prep School raises money for a range of charities and the children are currently giving their opinions as to which charities we will support over the coming months.  The children are always keen to gather the views of their fellow pupils and School Council representatives will be undertaking polls in the classes to find out which charities to put forward for one of our fundraising events.  The children also looked and modelled the new ideas for our School winter coats.  They will have discussions in class to see which design is preferred and come back to the next meeting where a further discussion will take place.

Next week will be a very exciting one at the Prep School.  The children from Years 5 and 6 are visiting the PGL Centre at Marchants Hill Surrey for the week where they will be challenging themselves to tackle new and exciting outdoor and adventurous activities. Years 3 and 4 also have a very exciting week planned back at School where they will be using a day trip to Bedgebury next Monday to energise their week’s learning with podcasts being produced on Friday.

Our Prep School Choir are competing at the White Rock Theatre in Hastings this evening in the finals of the East Sussex Schools Choir Competition.  The choir are very excited to be taking part and under the direction of our music teacher, Miss Neave, the children are well rehearsed.  We wish them good luck!

With best wishes.

Maria Maslin
