Dear Parents
With bags packed, children from Years 5 and 6 eagerly departed for their PGL trip to Marchants Hill in Surrey, on Monday accompanied by Mrs Corrigan and Mr Croft. Reports back from the staff so far have confirmed that our children have responded enthusiastically to the challenges set and have achieved things they hadn’t thought possible! PGL Centres are well known for the outdoor and adventurous activities they provide, which stimulate, educate and motivate the children. Skills in team work are fostered whilst allowing the children to really challenge themselves. Tasks such as the ‘Leap of Faith’ (a vertical challenge (8 metres) with a leap to reach a trapeze bar) enabled our pupils to exceed their expectations and feel very proud of their achievements. We cannot wait to hear of their adventures upon their return to School.
Meanwhile the rest of the School have had an exciting week too.
We arrived at School on Monday morning to find that the blue tit eggs had hatched over the weekend. We have been watching the eggs in the nest for a couple of weeks from our monitor in the dining room and the children were very excited to see the baby blue tit chicks. The adult blue tits are now spending a lot of their time feeding the many hungry mouths that appear to be bobbing around in the nest.
Children in Years 3-4 have been involved in a themed week looking at animals and their habitats. On Monday a day trip to Bedgebury allowed the children to become immersed in both woodland and grassland environments. The local beach at Bexhill was the location of their next visit on Wednesday, where plant and mini-beast studies on the shore were compared to those found at Bedgebury. Their outdoor learning experiences then inspired fabulous poetry work, animal animation tasks using specific IT software and other exciting activities back at School.
The week’s activities culminated in the production of a DVD illustrating their work. Every child proudly produced a presentation including; photographs from their trips, an audio podcast of their poems, videos of their field studies, sounds effects from the sea-side and much more. A lovely memento of a very exciting week; the children’s love of learning has been clear to see.
We wish you all a lovely holiday next week and look forward to the children returning for the final half-term of the year on Monday 3rd June.
Maria Maslin
