Message from the Headteacher May 3rd 2013

Dear Parents

Thank you so much for your very kind donations for our Yellow Day last Friday which raises funds for St Michael’s Hospice.  We are awaiting the final total from the Hospice and will let you know how much we raised as soon as we know – the collection tin was very full so we are hoping for a good total!

The children have enjoyed making the very best of the dry and sunny weather; both at School and out and about on educational visits around Sussex.

It was the turn of Ms Blau and the children from Year 1 to lead our School Assembly on Monday.  It was based on the story of “Gerald the Giraffe” around the subject of friendship and what we could all do to be a really good friend.  The whole School then danced the “Animal Boogie” led by the energetic children in Year 1.

On Wednesday the children from Year 2 led Assembly with Mrs Golding, where they shared work from their topic on mini-beasts.  Every child had chosen a different mini-beast to research and then presented their information for the whole school to enjoy.  We all learnt new facts about a wide variety of creatures from wriggly worms to buzzing bees.  We were treated to beautifully detailed artwork of each different mini-beast too.  They finished by singing the very apt “All things Bright and Beautiful” accompanied by a very talented group of Year 2 ocarina players.

Children from Years 2, 3 and 4 visited the Performing Arts Centre at the Abbey on Wednesday to see a production of Alice in Wonderland performed by the Year 10 Theatre in Education group. The students performed with great flair and energy and the children came back to the Prep School with some of the masks and props used by the actors, eager to tell us all about their favourite parts, characters and also about the rather large and chocolaty cakes which the children enjoyed afterwards!  Thank you to Mrs Valentino and the Year 10 theatre group for such a lovely event.

Please remember that School is closed for the Bank Holiday on Monday 6th May. School resumes next week on Tuesday with the whole School photograph at the Abbey. We wish you all a happy Bank Holiday weekend!

With best wishes.
