Message from the Headteacher June 21st 2013

Dear Parents

The Summer term is always full to the brim with exciting activities and events for the children and this was certainly true for the Prep School this week.

Key Stage 1 pupils had a fascinating day at the beach on Monday where rock pooling and beach based activities were the order of the day.  The children left the Prep School in colourful beach attire armed with buckets, spades and nets!  Although the weather was a little overcast and cool to start the day, the sun soon shone brightly and the customary picnic on the beach was enjoyed by all.  The children returned full of exciting stories from their entertaining day out.  Some of their poems inspired by the trip are in the newsletter.

Year 6 pupils undertook three mornings of intense Bikeability training, where specialist trainers taught the children how to ride their bikes safely and competently on the roads.  The children learnt a lot and all passed their Level 1 and Level 2 and received badges and certificates.  They really enjoyed the last morning when they went out with their instructors around the streets of Bexhill trying out their new found skills.

On Wednesday it was the turn of St E’s to lead Assembly.  They have been thinking about the long summer which is fast approaching and about how much free time everyone would have with no school work to do. Whilst they agreed that everyone enjoys a lie in and watching television St E’s decided that finding new activities to do would be fun.  So with this in mind, they devised a “St E’s Summer Challenge” for the children to try different and exciting things.  As well as completing as many of the 30 set challenges as possible, the children were asked to return in September with photographs of themselves doing some of the tasks.

These include:-

•    Rolling down a hill;
•    Building a den; and
•    Make and do an obstacle course in the garden.

We are now all looking forward to filling our summer days with exciting activities!

Years 3 and 4 headed off to the Aegon Tennis Tournament at Eastbourne yesterday.  They enjoyed tennis workshops sessions in the “Playzone” where young County players took our children for fun tennis-based activities.  They then toured the outside courts where they got very close to many top players before going into Centre Court to see the tennis professionals in action.

We look forward to seeing many parents and families at the Prep School over the next few days as there are many performances and sports activities awaiting the children next week.

With best wishes.
Maria Maslin
