Dear Parents
The Prep School was over-run today with soft toys – mostly teddies of all shapes and sizes. Indeed, with the staff also bringing in their teddies too, I do believe that we were almost out-numbered by them!
A grand picnic was held in the grounds of the School at lunchtime for Nursery and Prep School children to which the bears came too. We also welcomed David Clark to the picnic. He arrived with his bear to join in with proceedings. This special event was in aid of Action Medical Research for Children and was part of the Charity’s Bring your Bear to School National Campaign. The main celebrity behind this initiative is Paddington Bear; hence our bears in school. We all had a great deal of fun while raising money to help fund vital medical research that could lead to life-changing treatments for babies and children. Thank you to everyone for donating so generously to this Charity. The final total will follow next week!
St Mary’s led Assembly on Wednesday on World Environment Day. On 5th June 1972, the United Nations formed a new organisation called the United Nations Environment Programme to help people all over the world to do more to look after the planet. Every year since then World Environment Day has been held to raise awareness of its cause. After playing an active recycling game with two children from Year 3, they gave us ten top tips to make the world a cleaner, brighter, happier place to live. We also watched an episode of The Wombles to reinforce the message that rubbish dropped and left behind really does have serious consequences to wildlife and our environment.
We have been very lucky with the sunny weather this week which has made our trips out much more enjoyable. On Monday Reception, Year 1 and 2 had a lovely trip to Bexhill Museum following a picnic in the local park. The curator from the Museum then took the children over to the beach for a Dinosaur Walk and fossil hunting. On Wednesday Year 6 had a lovely day at Woods Mill Environmental Centre looking at plants and animals in their habitats.
I hope you all enjoy a lovely weekend in the sunshine.
With best wishes.
Maria Maslin
