Message from the Headteacher July 5th 2013

Dear Parents

We have had a very busy end to this academic year.

Well done to all Reception and Key Stage 1 children for their Sports Day that took place last Friday morning.  Although the weather was cool and drizzly the children enjoyed every event. They were cheered on by family and friends who had come to support them and a huge thank you to the children from Year 6 who went round with groups of younger children and encouraged them all the way!

Children from Reception and Key Stage 1 enjoyed a fabulous Seaside Show on Monday morning which rounded off their topic work this term.

Representatives from Little Legs for Life, who raise money for Cancer Research UK, came to Assembly on Tuesday to introduce a run/walk for children to raise money for the Charity.  We will be hosting this event for primary school age children in the Bexhill area at Battle Abbey Prep School on Saturday 14th September.  Details have been sent home with the children this week and we are looking forward to making this event a big success.

Our Year 6 leavers enjoyed their leaving celebrations on Monday after school.  A special pool party was held in our school pool where The Fun Factory led entertaining water based games and dancing!  Afterwards they dined out in style at The Italian Way in Bexhill.  A huge thank you to the parents who organised such a lovely event for our leavers.  Year 6 led a “Moving On” Assembly on Wednesday when each child shared their memories of their time at the Prep School and spoke of the help and support they had received from School staff.  They talked about their hopes and aspirations for the future and the rest of the School wished them good luck.

The Year 5-6 Tennis Tournament took place this week in fine weather.  The standard of tennis was strong with some fine play and exciting rallies; especially in the later stages of the competition.  The final placings were as follows:-

   1st place - Louis Choron;
    2nd place - Ali Al-Shamaa;
    3rd place - Christopher Strickland; and
    4th place - Austin Alexander.

It is at this time of year that we say goodbye and good luck from everyone at the Prep School to our Year 6 leavers, to Hannah Houghton-Berry who has been a fantastic Teaching Assistant and to Sue Densem who has inspired Year 3 to be budding Historians and Geographers.

With best wishes for a lovely summer break.

Maria Maslin
