Dear Parents
It has been a very positive and enjoyable start to the new term with the pupils, both old and new, settling in extremely well. The children clearly rested well over the summer break and it is lovely to see their enthusiastic attitude to School life at the start of this new academic year.
Our new Reception pupils accomplished one of the most important milestones in their lives – their very first day at School! They arrived at their classroom enthusiastic and possibly a little nervous; dressed smartly in their brand new uniform ready for the exciting day ahead. After a fantastic day of exploration mixed together with plenty of fun they were collected by their families; happy and possibly a little tired!
The children from Years 1 and 2 had a great time visiting Battle Abbey on Tuesday. They were shown around the School by Mr Dennett and enjoyed exploring the buildings and grounds. They dropped into Mr Clark’s office to have their morning snacks and drinks with the new School Guardians and Mr Clark.
The children were treated to a wonderfully informative and entertaining talk by Antony Penrose yesterday. We learnt that Antony had very famous parents who got to know the famous artist Picasso during their holidays to the South of France. He regaled us of his memories of Picasso when he was a child, both in France and in Sussex. He explained some of Picasso’s work to the children and showed us some of the more unusual items he used for his sculptures – the next time a mug gets broken in School I will be on the lookout in the art room to see if the children have used the fragments to make a sculpture! The children had a chance to obtain a signed book entitled “The Boy Who Bit Picasso” and Antony shared this particular story with the children much to everyone’s delight.
I am delighted to announce that every child who was entered for their piano, flute and keyboard exams last term all passed with Distinction, the highest grade that can be awarded. The children performed to an exceedingly high standard and really earned the high marks awarded to them. Congratulations must also go to Miss Neave, their music teacher for preparing the children so well.
Staff have been busy arranging exciting events and activities which will enhance the children’s learning and I know that the children will gain greatly from these enriching experiences. We are all looking forward to a new term that will offer fresh challenges to the children at the Prep School.
With best wishes.
Maria Maslin
