Message from the Headteacher September 27th 2013

Dear Parents

Thank you to all those who came to this morning’s MacMillan Coffee Morning – it was lovely to see our School Hall so full.  Thank you to those who baked delicious cakes and savouries for us to sell and to everyone who enjoyed a lovely cup of tea or coffee.  Children from years 1 and 2 charmed us with their autumnal songs and performed to their friends and families with great confidence. All money from today’s event will go to support MacMillan Cancer Support.  Kris Alexander (mum to Austin and Ethan) won the “guess how many beans are in the jar competition”!

The first of our Year 6 Stars made their promises during Assembly last week.  They promised to do their very best around the School and to uphold the values of a Battle Abbey pupil.  The Stars are chosen for their leadership qualities and their abilities to help both children and staff around the School.

Congratulations to our Stars:-
•    Imogen Birkett
•    Ellie Bostock-Smith
•    Madison Mullarkey; and
•    Christopher Strickland.

We know they will be great Ambassadors for our School.

Last week we also announced our School Council representatives for this half year.  These are hotly contested positions of responsibility as many of the representatives were elected by peers in their class.

Congratulations go to:-
•    Isobel Haverly – Year 1
•    Beatrice Holdbrook – Year 2
•    Sasha Duckett – Year 3
•    Ché Shand – Year 4
•    Ruby Jeffries-Foot – Year 5 and
•    Ali Al-Shamaa – Year 6

who were presented with special badges. We have already held our first meeting of the term where the children were keen to share their ideas of how we can make our School even better than it already is.

Last week Year 6 led a special Assembly where they talked about their ambitions for their last year at the Prep School. They shared their goals for the year, along with things they are particularly looking forward to, with the rest of the School. The children are aiming to challenge themselves academically with many aiming to improve their grades.  From every child came a real aspiration to help lead the Prep School in the additional roles and responsibilities they enjoy from being a Year 6 pupil. Many anticipated that being in Year 6 would be really great fun!

Children from St Etheldreda’s confidently led Assembly on Wednesday.  They reported back on the “St E’s Summer Holiday Challenge” and we all congratulated Hermione White on her fabulous book of challenges achieved over the summer break.  To be successful in a challenge we need to keep trying and keep practising – something that we will all try to do in School this year.

Once again thank you to everyone who made our Coffee Morning for MacMillan Cancer Support such a huge success – the total so far is over £200!   Fantastic!

Best wishes.

Maria Maslin
