Dear Parents
It seems hard to believe that half term has arrived. The start of this school year has been very fruitful and productive. All our new children including those in Reception class have settled in well and we have been very impressed with the hard working attitude of the children.
Children from Years 5 and 6 arrived at the Abbey last night, full of anticipation and great excitement, to enjoy the School’s
traditional Harold’s Night Disco. Dressed in disco outfits, many new for the occasion, they took great delight in taking to the dance floor alongside the rest of the School. Imogen
Scott-Carter had the honour of cutting the cake, traditionally iced with eye and arrow, and the children finished the evening with a Prep School conga! A fantastic night was had by all.
Last Wednesday Year 4 visited Devonshire Park Theatre in Eastbourne to see the matinee performance of The Butterfly Lion. They have been studying this book by Michael Morpurgo as part of their Literacy work and this adaptation was brought to life through wonderfully inventive storytelling, moving original music and enchanting puppetry. The children were captivated by the whole performance and Mrs Williamson reported back that every child was a real credit to the School.
Every year there is a great air of expectancy amongst the children in Key Stage 2 as the casting of “Dick Whittington”, our pantomime this year, has now been finalised. Mr Croft has distributed scripts to Year 6 and I know that over the half-term break the children will be learning their lines in earnest. Miss Neave has handed out lyrics to the songs for children in Key Stage 2 who I am sure will be busy practising over the half term.
As the Prep School breaks for our traditional two week
half-term holiday, we wish all the children and their families a restful holiday and look forward to welcoming you all back to school on Monday 4th November.
Best wishes.
Maria Maslin
